Kuo is expecting the wireless charging support and Bluetooth spec upgrade with a revised W-series chip to ship in the first calendar quarter of 2019. The revision will have an unspecified “all-new design,” which includes:

• Wireless charging: The wireless charging case which was announced over a year when the wireless charging pad Airpower was first released will be included in the update.
• Rise in price: It is expected that the price will go higher, therefore if you don’t want the wireless charging in your AirPods, it is advisable to buy them before the upgraded model.
• Better Bluetooth: There will also be an improvement in the Bluetooth connectivity which implies that the wireless charging case may also be sold separately.
• No sign of AirPower: Also Kuo makes no mention of AirPower which suggests that the upgraded Pods could arrive first.
• All-new design coming in 2020: At the end, if the wireless charging is not enough of an upgrade, a new design will arrive in 2020. The new design will drive replacement purchases by 2020.

In addition, Kuo seems to have an unrealistic growth estimate for the AirPods.  Predictions of 55 million, 80 million, and 110 million units to be sold in 2019, 2020, and 2021 respectively seem overly optimistic at first glance.
