The best apps for Apple Mac designers. In our last blog we took a look at the best apps for toddlers, to help out all those busy mums and dads that hire iPads and MacBook Pros from us to keep the little ones busy. And we had some pretty good feedback – so we thought today we would focus on another of our core demographics: graphic designers. We work with a number of them up and down the country because, for them, when a Mac breaks down it could mean they lose multiple days work. And so we not only fix them, but also offer them MacBook Pros and iMacs to hire on the very same day. So we thought we would speak to our clients and find out what apps they would recommend for the budding designer.

Trello

Designers are a notoriously pedantic bunch – and we mean that in the best possible way. If you can spot the difference between teal and turquoise, we salute you. Which is why Trello is such a great accompaniment to any graphic design business – with a carefully designed user interface, it offers a phenomenal user experience whilst allowing you an easy way of coordinating a big design project. Trello have adapted themselves to each version of an Apple device; meaning it is fully responsive with the iPad Pro, iPhone 7 and, even, the Apple watch. And as if that wasn’t enough, it’s completely free.

Procreate

This intuitive app allows you to draw directly onto the screen, which then gives you the option of digitally editing and enhancing your image to suit the needs of a client. According to our trusted designers, this app boasts formidable speed, particularly on the iPad where you can really benefit from the fantastic power.

Noteshelf

This nifty little app works a little like a sketchbook and is perfect for the earliest days of a job when you are still brainstorming ideas. It also allows you to annotate documents and images as well as mixing typed, audio and handwritten notes with some stunning ink effects. Compatible with the iOS 7.0 and above, it is well worth the investment at £6.99.

Exify

This app could, arguably, be more for the photographers amongst us. However, having worked with a fair number of creatives, we know that the ability to easily and quickly edit a photo is of paramount importance. Using its fantastic functionality allows you to explore the image size, colour space, exposure and so much more of any photo – giving you an easy way of editing the perfect photo for your project.

Font Candy

Despite the slightly odd name of this app, it is an invaluable asset to a number of the graphic designers we work with. With this app you can create captions to be overlaid onto a photo of your choice in any font imaginable. The app even offers a quick way of sharing your photos across social media – a real find.
