Reports are coming in of Apple buying startup ‘Platoon’ which discovers Up-and-Coming Music Artists. Apple is reported to have bought a UK startup, Platoon, which provides a platform for up and coming artists. Streaming platforms are known to seek means to directly relate with artists rather than through the longer process of acquiring rights to their music.
Since Platoon helps artists without a record label create and sell their music, this move by Apple is in the direction of getting more exclusive rights to the music of upcoming artists.
The streaming platform of Apple currently competes with major players of the industry including Spotify. As at the last estimate, Apple’s streaming platform currently has about 50 million subscribers. Apple Music’s next target is 60 million subscribers.
To keep up with the competition and achieve its goal, Apple has made several moves including the buying of Platoon which is the most recent move. Apple confirmed this deal to CNBC, although not disclosing the worth of the deal. Reports of the deal were initially made by Music Business Worldwide. The deal was confirmed as a buy, unlike other deal which could just be Apple hiring a few members of staff.
Founded by Denzyl Feigelson and Saul Klein, Platoon is just about 2 years old and have been involved in the careers of artists such as Eilish, Jorja Smith, Stefflon Don, Jacob Banks, Mr. Eazi, Rex Orange County and YEBBA.
The founders of Platoon combined a wealth of experience in the entertainment industry in creating the startup. Denzyl Feigelson brings experience in the music industry working with Apple for 15 years, while Saul Klein is a co-founder of an entertainment outfit, LoveFilm. you agree that its true Reports are coming in of Apple buying startup ‘Platoon’ which discovers Up-and-Coming Music Artists
With Platoon now owned by Apple, subscribers can expect more exclusive music from artists currently working with Platoon. Apple should also be able to find more upcoming artists and create their music which may be available exclusively on Apple Music with Platoon.
Apple has also made other similar moves towards exclusive music rights in recent times, although this is the most recent move. Other moves made by Apple towards exclusive music include partnerships with Genius and Asaii. The partnership with Genius brought about the availability of lyrics to sings streamed by users. The partnership with Asaii helps Apple find artists who will release hits in the nearest future.
With Platoon as an Apple acquisition, Apple Music users can only expect a better quality and variety of music. To find out about the Platoon, you need to either buy or rent an Apple device
