At Mac Rental Company we have clients across the country and often find that in purchasing a new Apple product they come to us for advice. And one of the most common questions we receive is the choice between an iMac Pro, a Mac Pro and an iMac. iMac Pro vs Mac Pro, Of course, all of these machines are the product of the absolutely wondrous Apple technology and so the truth is you couldn’t really go wrong with any of them. However, that being said there are some clear benefits and (dare we even use the word) drawbacks of each machine that should certainly influence your decision. So to help you make that all-important choice we have compiled a handy list.
iMac Pro
This is the perfect option for an individual who is looking for a fast and portable MacBook, although we have to be honest there are Apple machines with a higher screen resolution and more RAM. That being said, the iMac Pro has quad-core processors that are actually stronger than the iMac, which is rather helpful.
iMac
Possibly the most important thing to mention at this point is that the iMac is not portable – working like a desktop it is a pretty hefty piece of machinery (if enviably stylish) and will take up a fair amount of space on your work station. So if you are looking for a portable solution it is probably not right for you. That being said, it does come with one of the strongest 5K displays as well as a 3.4 GHz quad-core i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, a Radeon Pro 570 graphics card with 4GB video memory, two Thunderbolt ports and a 1TB Fusion drive. For our creative clients who need to create films or graphics, there really is no machine better suited to this function, although starting at around £1,500 it isn’t the cheapest model on the market.
Lastly, but by no means least is the Mac Pro. To be perfectly honest, Apple has struggled with the Mac Pro over the past few years and the one main advantage of this machine is that it is completely silent. So if you are in production audio there really is no machine better suited to this function. And it seems unlikely there will be any great decrease in price of the Mac Pro as there are no plans to release a new model until 2019, at which point the current model will be six years old.
What machine do you have? The iMac Pro? The iMac? The Mac Pro? All of the above? We would love to hear from you.
