This was added by iOS 8 and it does all kind of nifty things such as picking up appointments that may be contained within the message or automatically detecting when someone has changed their contact information. This means you can easily accept these changes without having to manually enter any data.

there are some people – maybe your boss or an extremely important client whose emails you really don’t want to miss. Apple allows you to customise the tone for people designated as “VIPs,” which means even if your iPhone is on silent you won’t miss any important messages. You can do this through Settings > Notifications > Mail > VIP.

For those people who have been at a loss since IOS 7 deleted the ability to flag an email, Apple has recently introduced a change that should help you all breathe that bit easier.
