How to edit a video on an iMac 27 inch retina in 4K resolution? As we may have mentioned….oh we don’t know a few dozen times, we are pretty big fans of all things Apple over at the Mac Rental Company so we know we are a little biased about their fantastic range of products. However, often we speak to our clients and spend a good few minutes raving about the many benefits of all things Apple – from the iPhone to the iPad right through to the iMac and that’s what we’d like to focus on today. Inspired by the brand new supercomputer iMac that we discussed last week that led to quite a few conversations about this ambitious Mac, we wanted to offer our two cents on one of the best features of an iMac 27 inch retina in 4K resolution.
Coming with….*take a big breath here* a 3.2 GHz quad-core Intel i5 and an AMD Radeon R9 M380 with 2GB of video memory as well as 8GB of RAM, which is upgradable to 32GB – the iMac 27 inch in 4K resolution is a machine of tremendous beauty – offering exceptional quality, speed and storage and working as a fantastic basis on which to start editing your videos.
The best way to go about doing this is through using iMovie – Apple’s very own custom made software built specifically for that function (we guess the name is something of a giveaway.)
To launch iMovie all you need to do is click the iMovie icon in the Dock (it looks something like a star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame) or you could run it through Launchpad. From there the process is relatively easy (thanks to the Apple gods) – all you need to do is choose a file (or could press cmd + N if patience is not your virtue) and type a name for your project.
That’s the easy part done. From there you need to:
Select the aspect ratio (or screen dimensions) for your movie, your options are:
A widescreen display (16:9)
A standard display (4:3)
A display suited for use on an iPhone (3:2)
Choose the Frame rate – the default frame rate is 30 frames per second, however you can choose a slower frame rate such as 25 fps which may be better for international movie standards.
Click a project Theme thumbnail to select a theme to apply to your finished movie. If you choose a theme, iMovie automatically adds the transitions and titles that correspond to that theme.
Click Create – voila, you’re finished and what could be easier!
