How Apple is set to change the health sector? There are plenty of individuals who will moan and lament the rise of technology. However, at Mac Rental Company we think all things technology are only a positive, and one sector where we are constantly amazed at the improvements our friends, family and clients have seen thanks to their smart phone is the health and wellness sector.
Allowing you to track, monitor and be accountable, being armed with a smart phone means you can use fantastic apps like MyFitnessPal that empowers you take control of your diet and track your calorie count and exercise or there is also MapMyRun which can turn even the most novice runner into a season pro – helping you find new routes and monitoring your distance.
But, these apps are only scratching the surface because Apple has some pretty ambitious plans when it comes to the healthcare sector. In fact, they have employed 13 exercise physiologists and specialists as well as 29 nurses and medics to develop health and fitness tech at their headquarters.
One of their recent innovations involves a pretty spectacular app that is being offered to patients over in The States – essentially it allows patients in hospitals to monitor their conditions, meaning that they can access their health data more easily, helping to ease communication between patient and doctors as well as giving patients peace of mind. What’s fantastic about the app is that it not only offers invaluable health data on issues like heart rates and glucose ratings, but it also explains what those vitals mean.
This is by no means the only app that Apple are currently working on. Apple have also recently introduced some more software services including CareKit, ResearchKit and HealthKit. CareKit was created to help patients with chronic conditions share data with their care team, whilst HealthKit was designed to make it easier for developers to gather health data and ReaserchKit helps researchers recruit participants for their studies.
And it’s not just Apple who are making waves in the healthcare sector, but us humble folk at Mac Rental Company are also doing our bit in the name of science. We recently worked with a fantastic science company as they went touring round the country, demonstrating their phenomenal range of machines. We rented them the fantastically powerful and sophisticated iMac Retina in 27 inch, which offered viewers spectacular clarity and precision of image.
