At Mac Rental Company we work with a number of creatives – including some extremely talented writers who are hoping to get themselves published. No easy feat, it takes some serious dedicated and talent to become the next J.K Rowling. Thankfully, however the kind folks at Apple have got your back – having created some seriously fantastic Apps that are compatible with devices from the iPhone 6s to the MacBook Pro with Retina to help you get published. So we asked our clients for their very Best Apple apps for Aspiring authors that help inspire them to write and have compiled a handy list for your enjoyment here.
Mindnode
Even if your book isn’t quite as complicated as Lord of the Rings, you will still require a solid structure and a good understanding of plot development and character progression. Which is why Mindnode can come in so handy – the map allows you to start with your central thought and then branches out from there, literally creating a map of the inner workings of your mind. As if that wasn’t enough you can then colour code, highlight and customise your branches. This can help some real order out of the ideas in your head – and is perfect for the visual thinker.
Storytracker
This one rather does what it says it on the tin. Essentially it allows you to keep track of your stories, novels, poems, scripts and articles. The app records when you submit a piece, but it allows you to tag each submission with important information like response, income earned and other important details. Most importantly – this means you will never send the same submission twice – which we have known writers to do.
Index Card
This is another nifty little piece of software that allows you to outline plots and easily shuffle them around a corkboard – which means if you find yourself at something of a plot dead-end or aren’t sure where to go, this can prove to be the perfect inspiration.
Storycubes
This app can be massively helpful for creativity. A little like a magic 8 ball for writers you simply roll the dice, virtually, of course and revisit a world of ideas replete with glorious images, inspiring descriptions and see new ways of continuing your novel. A must have for any author.
iBooks
This is extremely exciting and a real favourite of some of our authors. Not only is iBooks used to read books, but you can also import your very own novel and experience it as a new reader.
