At Mac Rental Company we were rather excited at Christmas time to see the brand new Apple ad which we thought blended the beauty of Apple with the happiness of Christmas rather wonderfully. And then Apple released their brand spanking new advert for the iPad Pro which, rather excitingly, demonstrated its capacity for AR. All these adverts got the team at Mac Rental Company thinking – what have Apple’s best adverts been throughout the years? Well fear not at Mac Rental Company we were rather excited at Christmas time to see the brand new Apple…dear reader as we have done some research and sourced the very best ads for your reading pleasure.
Dillan’s Voice
This ad wins the top spot because not only does it fantastically show off the capacity of the iPad, but it also was released in conjunction with 2016’s Autism Acceptance Month, which we at, Mac Rental Company, think is a ruddy good cause. In the ad, Dillian – a nonverbal teenager is able to deliver a speech at his graduation thanks to the clever iPad which translates his thought into speech. The ad not only raises awareness about autism and really allows readers to relate to those living with this, but also shows off the ability of “assistive technology.” A phenomenal invention that has changed the lives of those who struggle with communication. Quite rightly the advert gained 4.4 million views on YouTube and was nominated for a 2017 Webby Award.
1984
The seminal ad that really helped place Apple firmly on the tech map, it is now considered one of the greatest TV ads of all time. Shown for the first time during the Super Bowl and directed by renowned director Ridley Scott, it managed to advertise Apple’s new Macintosh personal computer without really even mentioning the computer. However, it clearly worked as Apple went on to sell 72,000 computers in only 100 days, which was twice as many as expected. Not too bad for one advert.
Pencil Test
Released in 1988, Apple made a short film in collaboration with Pixar which was called, rather simply, the “Pencil Test.” With the idea of demonstrating the Apple Macintosh II’s ability to create animations it shows a pencil escaping the computer screen before trying to get it back.
Internet
This advert is rather lovely, as even though it was released a mere 20 years ago (in 1996) it demonstrates, quite clearly, the excitement that surrounded the launch of the internet. Starting with the words, “What would you do, to change the world?” it then shows a range of different MacBook’s in different settings, as children offer inspirational declarations like “end hunger,” and “everyone gets house.” Everyone…n’aww.
Think Different
Made in 1997, when the company was really struggling, the Think Different campaign really had to make a difference. Steve Jobs and had just returned by had only 90 days of money left and no real plan, but this ad is largely held as having turned the fortunes of the company around. Featuring a number of noteworthy, vanguard individuals it associated Apple with innovation and change – and set the tone for the next twenty years of Apple.
