Apple supporting National Parks with donations, Now we may have mentioned this a few dozen times, but here at Mac Rental Company we are pretty big fans of Apple technology – from the MacBook Air to the iMac, we love their products. However, Apple are so much more than their technology, they are a brand with an extremely clear and focused vision (thanks Steve Jobs). From their swanky headquarters in California to the way they treat their employees, Apple never fails to disappoint, which is why we weren’t at all surprised to hear about their Apple Pay initiative.
During the entirety of the first two weeks of July (we know we are a little late on the bandwagon here) so from 1st- 15th July, Apple donated $1 to the National Park Foundation for every purchase made with Apple Pay at any Apple store, on apple.com or through the Apple Store app in the US. Apple Pay was also accepted at select locations is some of the more popular national parks including Yellowstone, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, Muir Woods as well as the National Monument. According to Tim Cook his goal is to “leave the world better than we found it”, so this July we’re making it easier for anyone to help preserve the beauty of our natural, cultural and historical treasures.
For those of you who have yet to watch Parks and Recreations starring the fantastic Amy Poehler, parks are a pretty big deal over in the States and huge amounts of resources are required to ensure their maintenance – which is why Apple is hoping to make a real difference through raising money that will be sued to support conservation projects as well as enriching youth programmes designed to inspire the next generation of park enthusiasts. And as if that wasn’t enough, on 15th July Apple watch owners had a once in a lifetime opportunity to earn a special activity badge and sticker if they completed a walk, run or wheelchair workout of 3.5 miles – which just so happens to the be the same length as a hike from Old Faithful to Mallard Lake in Yellowstone National Park (and no we have never heard of those things either). But, we guess it’s a pretty big deal.
And finally as part of this explosion of enthusiasm for the National Parks, the App Store will also be highlighting apps that help users navigate and explore national parks – Leslie Knope would be so proud.
