It has upgraded its Retina Macbook Air and the Macbook Pro Notebook this years and consumers are loving it. But on the other hand, Apple has discontinued the sales of ‘$999 Macbook Air” as well as the “12-inch Macbook.”
Yes, it is true that there will be no more 12-inch Macbook and previous generation Macbook Air in the tech-market from now on. It’s official because the smallest and the cheapest Apple Mac computers have vanished from Apple’s website and online store.
Both the $999 Macbook Air and the 12-inch Macbook were considered as the entry-level computers. 12-inch MacBook was the perfect option for those Apple consumers who prefer a more compact and lightest Mac options. Apple has also announced a $100 drop in the entry-level price of the Retina MacBook Air but consumers are still why Apple discontinued the product line of $999 Macbook Air and 12-inch Macbook.
No doubt, it’s quite surprising to know that there will be no more 12-inch and $999 Macbooks in the market. But obviously, Apple has its own reasons to kill off the sales of these two notebooks. We understand that you are curious and eager to know all the reasons why Apple has to take this decision. If you want to know about the reasons for this change then continue reading this article.
Though the 12-inch Macbook and the $999 Macbook Air were considered as the revolutionary Apple computers of the whole Mac product line; both of these Mac computers has always been a controversy. Apple first launched the $999 Macbook Air as its first entry-level computers in 2008 and people were amazed by its specifications and features.
Due to a hugely positive response on the launch of Macbook Air, Apple then launched its first lightest and cheapest 12-inch Macbook 4 years ago in 2015. The 12-inch Macbook was a remarkable computer with a super-thin profile and sleek design and technologically advanced. But even with these features, this predated and discontinued notebook had some controversies.
The 12-inch Macbook lasted less than $999 Macbook. Apple launched only 3 generations for this notebook and it was updated only for two years. We have listed some of the problems and issues which puts the 12-inch Macbook and $999 Macbook product line to an end.
Apple launched the 12-inch Macbook with a single USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port. Although this idea is very innovative and it is the future of laptops and notebooks, itis not effective for now. From 2015 till now, single USB ports only creates more trouble and problems for the consumers. It was too early to introduce the single USB port technology in the Macbooks, and it was something that Apple was unable to fix till 2019. Hence, one of the most obvious reasons to shut down the production of 12-inch Macbook was the lack of ports.
The ports were not the only issue in the 12-inch Macbooks. Apple used the first-generation butterfly switch keyboard first time in ts Macbook which was a total disaster. Instead of providing better typing, the 12-inch Macbook had sticky keys which were difficult to use. Moreover, when Apple tried to fix the problem it came out that these keys are quite challenging to repair for the Apple employees.
Unlike the other Mac computers, Apple kept the 12-inch Macbook a fanless computer. It used an underpowered Intel Dual-Core M processor. But this processor made the 12-inch Macbook rather a slow computer because of a maximum 2.4GHz with a base clock of 1.1GHz.
Apple sold the 12-inch Macbook computers for $1,299. No doubt, Apple is among the leading tech-brands which are known for their quality but this computer was overpriced. Regardless of the port and keyboard issue, slow processing & performance of this computer made it a costly product. This computer lacked the value-based price factor.
Even with more and advanced features, the 12-inch has a fewer number of sales as compared to 2008 or 2012 Macbook Air versions. Though the entry-level Macbook Air had a bad resolution, its keyboard and performance were better than 12-inch Macbook.
Apple didn’t discontinue the 12-inch Macbook or the $999 Macbook Air till 2019. But when it launched the updated and upgraded Macbook Air version in 2018, it greatly reduced the number of sales for $999 Macbook Air and 12-inch Macbook. Therefore Apple decided to shut down the sales of these two Mac laptops/notebooks.
Apple consumers are definitely mourning the 12-inch Macbook because of its sleek and ultra-thin design, but Apple has made great changings for its consumers as well. To compensate the consumers, Apple has dropped the entry-level price of the Retina MacBook Air by $100. Further, the 13-inch Macbook is now the entry-level Mac computer which is available at the Apple stores. Last but not the least, Apple has made another announcement regarding the $999 Macbook Air; that it would be available via its Education Institution store for now.
