We have all been there ….we are watching the latest offering on Apple Play whilst looking at our iPhone and eating our dinner and without us even realising our MacBook Pro or MacBook is now full of crumbs.Apple patents world’s first crumb-resistant keypad. Which for many of the graphic designers and creatives in London we work with can, quite frankly, be rather irritating, especially as so many of them work through lunch and dinner trying to meet those deadlines for their clients.
But, fear not ladies and gents because the clever folk at Apple are coming up with a revolutionary system that should change all that. According to a patent application made public on Thursday, March 8th Apple could well be developing a branding spanking new MacBook keyboard designed to prevent crumbs and dust from getting stuck in those rather shallow MacBoook keys. According to the patent application, the solution might be found with the careful application of gaskets, brushes, wipers or flaps that block gaps beneath keycaps. One possible solution would include a membrane beneath each key, insulating the interior of the MacBook keyboard from the exterior whilst another describes how each keypress could be used as a “bellows” to force contaminants out of the keyboard.
And we say that it’s about time too, given that a MacBook Pro could set you back a whopping £3,000 (if you opt for the latest and greatest upgrades) it can prove to be rather problematic when your work is derailed by a stray crumb or piece of dust. And with the latest updates for the MacBook Pro arriving in 2018, it could well be that we see these crumb-resistant keyborads in the not too distant future. Although, we don’t want to get the fans at Mac Rental Company too excited as not all patents become real and often they take a number of years, so whilst the brand new MacBook Pro may be kitted out with the latest software, it probably won’t boast a crumb resistant keyboard quite yet.
That being said, the updated MacBook Pro should still be a rather exciting moment for any Apple fun. We have heard rumours that Apple is planning on increasing the pixel count on the 15in MacBook Pro and offering a 4K display as well as possibility for touchscreen capability as well as finally moving from dual-core to quad-core.
