Apple invents Pizza box? Apple is known for many things – it is the company that gave us the iPhone, the MacBook and the iPad. Not to sound overdramatic, but many of its inventions have seemingly changed the world as we know it. Where would you be without your iPhone? How would graphic designers create their stunning creations without the use of the iMac and its stunning clarity? How would freelancers go about their day to day business without the helpful addition of the MacBook Air which is so light it can be carried around easily? We like to think that Apple has essentially made the world a better place.
However, with their latest invention has come as a surprise to quite a few, because this week Apple announced that they have used their collective imagination and intelligence to design a….Pizza Box. Yes, you read that correctly – a pizza box. Designed by Francesco Longoni, Apple’s head of food services, it was made specifically for its employees at headquarters in California it has actually been patented by Apple so no one can steal their idea. So what makes this pizza box so special we hear you ask? According to the Guardian, “it features concentric rings that support the base of the pizza while providing an air gap between it and the base of the box. The lid clips into the bottom, and the side wall integrity keeps the whole thing from getting crushed.” Or in layman terms, it features carefully placed holes that allow heat and moisture to escape preventing any soggy bottoms. Meaning workers can travel to the cafeteria and back to their pods without losing any of that crisp pizza taste.
Its unique design also allows the boxes to be easily stacked together and stored – making feeding the 4,000 people working at the California headquarters slightly less daunting. And whilst there are no plans to take this pizza box public, signalling Apple’s entry into the only market they have yet to penetrate, the food business (ironically given their name) true pizza lovers will be able to experience eating from this box when Apple open a public café in the coming year.
At Mac Book Rental we sincerely hope this isn’t the end of Apple’s foray into food – we are looking forward to Apple’s take on the kebab box and chip cone – night outs may never be the same again!
