The environment – the hot topic of the day. Few would question that we need to take positive action in saving the Earth’s resources. However, putting that theory into action is proving to be immensely difficult. At Mac Rental Company, we may not be environmental crusaders, but we certainly try to recycle and be contentious citizens. Lets discuss Apple and its environmental awareness! We were overjoyed to hear that Apple has just released a pledge that all future iPhones will be made from 100% recycled materials. Yes, you read that correctly – absolutely every aspect of the iPhone 6, 6s and 7 – and the soon to come iPhone 8 will be made from recycled materials. The only slight glitch in this otherwise admirable and worthy plan, is that Apple have no clue how to actually put this into effect. However, Apple have been constantly honest about this. What they are admitting is that they have a problem, they don’t know how to fix it, but they will get there. This is a first for Apple – who have, quite rightly, never been known for their humility. And we at Mac Rental Company salute them for taking this big and bold step.
To date, many environmentalists have criticised Apple’s over reliance on zinc, copper, tungsten and cobalt – all of which need to be mined. An intensive process that hurts not only the environment, but in the case of cobalt, the surrounding ecology. Sadly, the mountain gorillas of the Democratic Republic of Congo are suffering due to the mining of their habitat.
However, it’s not all bleak at Apple HQ as the company have already taken positive strides in creating a brighter future. According to a recent report they have already decreased their carbon footprint by 23% over the last twelve months. They also created a robot named Liam (although nobody really knows why) who has the capacity to break down old iPhones and reuse the materials to help create new iPhones. And as if that wasn’t enough, their facilities now run on 96% renewable energy. In fact, if you check out our recent article on the latest Apple HQ we are sure you will be amazed at the emphasis the design places on eco-friendly architecture. Go Apple!
Apple are also using their influence to pressure suppliers into joining them in their work to combat climate change. And it’s working. According to reports, “seven major suppliers have pledged to power their Apple production entirely with renewable energy by the end of next year.” Well, we guess Apple is probably a pretty big account to lose.
