In the past week, there have been rumors about 2019 apple iPhone feature suggesting that US telecommunication giant, Apple may be introducing a smaller notch in its 2019 iPhones.
According to Reuters 2019 apple iPhone feature, Apple key supplier ASM is already making headway in helping Apple reduce the size of the notch or even get rid of it entirely at some point in time.
Responding to this, Austrian Apple Supplier, ASM, last week announced the launch of a new tech sensor that can be incorporated into future iPhones to reduce the size of the notch that houses the TrueDepth Camera System that is used for Face ID.
AMS says the new light and proximity sensor which was developed to be installed behind a smartphone OLED display can lead to the elimination of the bezel in its entirety.
Speaking at the Launch, AMS Senior Marketing Manager, David Moon, said; “Smartphone OEMs today are striving to maximize their products’ screen-to-body ratio, reducing the bezel area as much as possible on the display’s face.
“The TCS3701 enables phone designers to take this trend to a new level, potentially eliminating the bezel entirely. This is only possible because the TCS3701 can operate behind an OLED display, a breakthrough enabled by the outstanding sensitivity of the device and by the implementation of sophisticated measurement algorithms to compensate for the optical distortion caused by the OLED display.”
“What AMS has created are new light and proximity sensors which use proprietary algorithms to operate quickly and accurately at very low light levels. These levels are so low the tiny 2 x 2.5 x 0.5mm chips can be placed behind an OLED display. And bingo! Face ID no longer requires a notch to be cut into an iPhone screen to function.” He added.
According to the firm about 2019 apple iPhone feature, the new light and IR proximity sensor can detect when ambient light passes through an OLED display using unique algorithms that have been designed to give room for accurate detection of ambient light without interference by the display’s pixel brightness.
The new IR proximity and RGB light sensor will function adequately just the way they are intended to even though they will be installed underneath the OLED display.
As stated by Reuters, AMS is the company that provides Apple with optical sensors for the TrueDepth camera system on the iPhone X, XR, XS, and XS Max.
